 The transparent phone

(Yes, we’re serious.)

We’ve been lazy.

Or is there another reason?

Everyone knows that the future will have transparent phones.
Almost every sci-fi entry from Looper to Black Mirror has shown off a variant of the wondrous device.
But we at Sology are a little frustrated that this staple of tomorrow hasn’t yet had its IRL debut.

Wasn’t this the future?

Because we’re pretty sure it’s possible.
Transparent batteries were announced almost a decade ago.

LCD screens are already transparent; it’s the light panel behind them that creates opacity.
To make a handheld backlit transparent display possible, we suggest the manufacture of what we’ve come to call a Thinflect™ Screen; a hybrid transparent LCD screen illuminated by an internal short-throw projector mounted at the lower chin of the device, where the light is bounced up to the viewing angle of the screen using an angled reflector panel etched into the internal glass.

With this type of screen, each pixel of the image can be lit up individually, much like OLED display technology.

If some components cannot be made transparent, they can be hidden at the lower chin of the phone, and either a misted or mirror gradient finish can gently fade into the crystal clear main body of the phone.

We’re going to figure it out.

Will you help us?

It’s as simple as manufacturing a few “dummy models” (much like the ones that have been passed off as “prototypes” before) and playtesting them in a variety of different scenarios. Only then can we confidently make the case that there is a definite market for the transparent phone.

But we can’t do it alone.
